Album Mundo Nuevo

The debut from Addys Mercedes
Her debutalbum „Mundo Nuevo“ (new world) Addys recorded in old legendary cuban studios with musician-friends from her youth. Guajiras, cha cha chas and sones resemble, pure and genuine, of a young Celia Cruz or Omara Portuondo. Gueststar and duett-partner in the romantic guajira „No Me Abandones“ was the legendary Raul Planas. With her warm, unique voice Addys sings about her memories of her cuban childhood (Cha Ka Cha) and the arrival in a new european world (Mundo Nuevo).

Mundo Nuevo is also the title song of the first release from the new latin vocalist Addys Mercedes. With her youthful, incredibly warm soul-voice, she undertakes a musical journey between her childhood in Cuba and her early years in Europe. Based on up-tempo latin grooves, „Mundo Nuevo“ tells us about her ambiguous feelings towards these two worlds. Her arrival, full of curiosity in wintery Europe, her yearning for her tropical home and the gratitude for the new inspiration provided by a new world. Beside the original Timba-version, there is an additional Latin House remix.

The CD also is a homage to old times where Addys pays tribute to several musical legends from her grandparent´s generation. In the guajira „No Me Abandones“ Addys´ clear and natural voice is mixed with the smoky voice of 76 year old Raúl Planas who sang, like Celia Cruz, with the legendary Cuban band „La Sonora Matancera“ and later joined the „Afro Cuban All Stars“, The only cover versions on the recording are new interperatations of the standards „El Carretero “ and „Como Fue“ in which Addys is accompanied by the virtuous tres-player „Coto“ and some of the Cuban musicians she had worked with before .

Cheeky, playful and always stylish, Addys is inspired by the treasure chest of danceable Latin grooves „I`m singing music that touches me, no matter if it comes from Cuba, America , Europe or even China „. The Song „Deja Que Digan“ parodies grumblers and critics, wrapped in hot salsa grooves with a pinch of the cuban rhythm Pilon. In „Cha Ka Cha“ Addys let us know through her lyrics the story of her brother, who in his lateteens was crazy about learning how to dance Cha Cha Cha rhythm, just to find new girls.

Addys´ passion for harmonic, exciting ballads, which are more usually found in Brazilian music, can be felt in the romantic – melancholic bolero „Tu Vanidad“ and the optimistic bachata „Versos Y Flores“. The beautiful hymn „Yemayá“ is a tribute to the African roots in salsa and tells about the Afro-cuban godess of water and fertility worshipped in many South American countries. „Oye Colombia“ shows Addys´possibilties moving in all kinds of rhythms and melodies. In this Cumbia, we can find a very strong mixture between new musical elements and the essence of her Cuban roots.

Mundo Nuevo is an inspiring journey which sublimely reveals facets of Addys´universe. „Tu tierra, mi tierra, solo hay un mundo“ („Your world, my world, there is just one world“; text from „Mundo Nuevo“.
